Lyrical Mural & Garden
Inspired by artist Sol LeWitt’s wall drawings and artist Josef Albers’ color theory, Lyric designed and painted a mural on a hillside property in Los Feliz. A forty-foot long retaining wall was divided into four equal panels and painted with a limited palette of four colors to create an electric buzz effect. Reflected patterns and color are visible throughout the interior of the house and can be found in the least expected places.

Phase 2 of this project was to create an eco-restorative and low-water needs garden while resiliently managing drainage from the hillside. By removing grass and installing weathering steel edging and a trench drain, we created a playful linear zone for petanque (the French version of bocce ball). Sun studies showed a small sliver of sunlight hitting a strip along the base of the mural which was planted with aeoniums. Meanwhile, Foxtail Agave, Coral Aloe, Fortnight Lily, Kangaroo Paw, and New Zealand Flax are thriving in the side garden.
