Los Angeles River Mobility

Elysian Valley to Cypress Park

One of the many challenges facing communities along the Los Angeles River is accessibility and healthy active transportation choices. While Metro’s property at Taylor Yard provides direct access to the LA River Greenway, the river itself was formerly a barrier to connecting the communities with destinations such as Frog Town residences, businesses and recreational features at Elysian Park and Dodger Stadium. Lyric’s team analyzed and conceptualized the benefits of converting a 1-hour walking route to a 15-minute walk with the implementation of a pedestrian bridge (designed by SPF:architects).

With the 2022 opening of the pedestrian bridge, a 21-minute bike ride became a 3-minute bike ride with a multi-use pedestrian and bicycle bridge and local roadway improvements to easily access the Rio de Los Angeles State Park and the existing bike network along Cypress Ave, additionally providing Safe Routes to School.
